At Glasshoughton Infant Academy, care is at the heart of everything we do. We believe that children learn best when they feel safe, happy, and supported, and when clear routines and expectations help them feel confident throughout the school day.

Our approach to pastoral care is guided by our values of Care, Aspire, and Succeed. Care means looking after every child’s wellbeing, helping them to feel secure and valued, while also setting high expectations for behaviour and learning so that all children can thrive in a calm and purposeful environment.

We promote simple, clear expectations that help children understand how to behave and learn positively at school. These consistent routines support happy classrooms, strong relationships, and learning that is free from disruption.

Supporting Every Child

Pastoral care is everyone’s responsibility. All staff work together to support children’s emotional, social, and academic development, ensuring that concerns are identified early and support is put in place quickly when needed.

Children are well supervised throughout the school day, including at playtimes and lunchtimes. Staff encourage positive play, kindness, and cooperation, and support children to build friendships and resolve issues calmly.

Class Teachers

Every child belongs to a class led by a class teacher, who is the main point of contact for families. Class teachers get to know their pupils well and play a key role in supporting learning, behaviour, and wellbeing. They work closely with parents and carers to share successes, address concerns, and ensure each child feels supported and understood.

Pastoral Team

Our Pastoral Team works alongside class teachers and senior leaders to support children who may need additional help. This may include emotional support, help with friendships, attendance, or wellbeing. The team works closely with families and, where appropriate, external agencies to ensure the right support is in place.

Working in Partnership with Parents and Carers

We know that children achieve best when school and home work closely together. We place great importance on building strong, positive partnerships with parents and carers, and we value open communication.
